Last Friday Hanna's school was having a Vocabulary Parade. They have this parade every year. Each grade level has a different vocabulary topic. The topics get more difficult as the kids get older. The younger kids start with letters. Some grades have compound words. Hanna's grade was doing words with prefixes.
Originally we planned on dressing Hanna up as "Unhappy". However, after Halloween, all the kids wanted to dress up as "Undead". This caused quite an issue in class because everyone couldn't dress up as the same thing. Hanna arrived home Thursday and informed me that she was chosen to be Undead. Uh.... Excuse me? What? You already have a word, and your costume is decided. Apparently Hanna's teacher chose two students from the entire class to be Undead and Hanna was one of them.
I initially said there was no way we were changing words/costumes at the last minute. It was the night before the parade. However, Daddy pointed out the she has done very well in school, she also received a 100 on her multiplication test, and has been very good lately. Not to mention the fact that the teacher obviously thinks she deserves to be Undead since she was one of the two chosen. He had a point, and I agreed. Hanna would now be "Undead". We called her "The Chosen One" for the rest of the night too.
I spent Thursday night frantically putting together a costume. I used a cheese grater to put holes in clothes. Black hairspray to make them look dirty. Friday morning I got up early to do Hanna's makeup and make her look like a corpse. A full face of makeup. Then time to curl, tease and spray her hair. Don't forget all the gray hair extensions I added. Then the spiders and centipedes I put in her hair too. She looked great.
The parade was scheduled to start at 8:45. My friend Tiffany's daughter also goes to the same school so we went to the parade together. We headed up there about 8:20 to guarantee a parking spot. It was a little chilly. We waited..... and waited some more. The parade finally started over 30 minutes late. By this time we've been standing here for almost an hour. The children come out in grade level. Finally, here comes 3rd grade and there is Hanna. Here is the video of her dressed as "Undead"....

Did you see her? Oh, wait..... maybe I should have told you not to blink. If you blinked I guarantee you missed her. Hours of time preparing a costume, applying makeup, styling hair, and making sure she was the best Undead corpse ever, only to have her come by in a flash. I can honestly say it was all worth it though. Hanna was thrilled with her costume. She looked great. All the kids commented on how cool she looked too. Plus, the other Undead kid's mom wouldn't let him do it. So Hanna ended up being the only one which was cool for her.
